At 4:30 a.m. on Saturday, most high school students were sound asleep, but runners, jumpers and throwers from all around Bucks County and Philadelphia rose to compete at Glen Mills High School.
Among these teams was Central Bucks East. CB East has enjoyed great success this season with numerous runners qualifying for the state competition, among them brothers Jake and Frank Brophy.
Jake, a sophomore, and Frank, a senior, came together in the 4×800-meter relay race. Along with Carlos Valez and Josh Goetz, the Brophy brothers led their relay to a third-place victory. The fasted leg of the race came from Frank, in 2:03.
The other highlight of the race came from CB East’s 4×400-meter relay consisting of Ata Shahideh, Oliver Boucher, Louis Kettleberger and Ryan Mitchell. Boucher ran the fasted leg of the race, in 53.2. The CB East relay won its heat and came in fifth overall, earning it a medal.
Overall, CB East had a great race with many runners improving their personal bests and getting closer to the Meet of Champions in late February and the state competition on March 1.
CB East’s next race will be at Lehigh University on Feb. 8.
