Central Bucks East boys’ lacrosse’s season ended Tuesday at top-seeded Penncrest, 13-12 in overtime, in the first round of district playbacks. The score was knotted at 6-6 at the half. In the third, Matt Schmidt and Brad Walentukonis each scored, sending the Patriots up by two, but the Lions came back and scored two of their own to tie it at 8-8. In the fourth, Ryan Brown put CB East back on top, but the Lions tied it at 9-9 and then took the lead. Matt Vetter put in another goal at 6:37 to tie it up again at 10-10 and then scored the go-ahead goal at 2:28 to put CB East up, 11-10. Penncrest scored 28 seconds later to tie it at 11-11 with 2:00 remaining in regulation. Then with just 38 ticks left on the clock, Schmidt scored on a feed from Brown, putting the Patriots up, 12-11, with 38 seconds left on the clock. CB East lost the critical faceoff and Penncrest tied the score at 12-12 with just 23 seconds left in regulation, sending the game into sudden-victory overtime. CB East won the faceoff and called time to work on a play. CB East’s Matt Brown got off a shot, but the Lions goalie came up with the save. The Lions cleared the ball and called a timeout of their own. On a screen, Logan Robert got his hands free and fired off a 20-foot righthanded rocket that found the back of the net to end the contest.
