The running of the annual CB East Alumni Day race, a tradition for more than 20 years, marks the beginning of a new season for CB East cross country, whose boys’ team placed first in the league championships last year.
Coach Sam Losorelli believes his squad has the ability to match that achievement in the upcoming season, with the help of its top runners, such as Jake Brophy, a sophomore who placed third in leagues last year; captains Billy Rollo and Jon Wommer; and Connor Sands, a returning junior. Losorelli was also confident in his girls’ squad saying, “The prospects are good…we have a solid group of girls.” He mentioned several names, including Louise and Elizabeth Huuki, Megan Willcoxon and Lizzie Morris.
Although the season appears bright, East’s traditional rival, CB West, and other top-notch schools such as North Penn, CB South and Pennridge will make the season interesting for East. When asked what the biggest challenge for the season will be, Losorelli stated, “As with every season, the biggest challenge is to keep athletes healthy and strong. That is the key from a coach’s standpoint.”
The next race for East, the Sharp Invitational on Aug. 30, will provide more insight into the future for the Patriots this season.
