Patriots run away from Bucks

Matt Schmidt scored four goals and Matt Milici added three goals and two assists as Central Bucks East boys’ lacrosse cruised past host Central Bucks West, 17-5, Thursday night. The Bucks led 3-2 after one quarter, but were unable to beat CB East goalie Sean McSherry (five saves) in the second half. Cole Rushworth won 19 of 22 faceoffs for the Patriots. Riley Kratzke and Jimmy Seykot each scored two goals for CB West. Junior goalie Mike Harvan was credited with 11 saves.

Central Bucks West girls’ basketball snagged fifth place out of District One with a 63-41 victory Saturday at North Penn. The Bucks led at the half, 29-13. Corrinne Godshall and Nicole Munger each netted 11 points to lead CB West. Maggie Gratz had 10.

Bucks rain on Pennsbury

Central Bucks West girls’ basketball drained 10 three-pointers as the Bucks cruised over visiting Pennsbury, 65-35, Wednesday night in the race for fifth place in the District One field. Sophomore point guard Nicole Munger was electric for CB West, posting 18 points and hitting three threes. Classmate Mackenzie Carroll was also effective, contributing 12 points and three triples. Calypso Carty and Kate McGlaughlin each hit two threes. The Bucks outscored the Falcons in the third quarter, 20-4.

Bucks qualify for states

Central Bucks West girls’ basketball will advance to states for the first time since 1999 after coming back to down Springfield (Delco), 52-45, in the second round of the District One Class AAAA tournament Wednesday. Springfield held a 16-10 lead after one quarter, but the Bucks took off in the second (18-9) and maintained their edge in the third and fourth quarters to move on to face top-seeded Spring-Ford Friday. Mackenzie Carroll led CB West with 13 points. Senior Calypso Carty knocked down three three-pointers for her 11 points. Nicole Munger contributed 8 points in the winning effort.

Girls’ hoops win district opener

Behind sophomore Mackenzie Carroll’s 14 points, eighth-seeded Central Bucks West girls’ basketball blew out No. 25 Great Valley, 62-30, Friday in the opening round of the District One Class AAAA tournament. The Bucks will face Springfield (Delco) in the second round on Wednesday. Against Great Valley, sophomore Nicole Munger registered 13 points and Maggie Gratz added 8. Corrinne Godshall led the Bucks with 11 rebounds.

Bucks share SOL Continental crown

Central Bucks West girls’ basketball destroyed Hatboro-Horsham, 62-27, Friday to share the Suburban One League Continental Conference championship with North Penn. The Bucks ran out to a 16-2 first quarter against the Hatters and never let up. Eleven Bucks scored versus Hatboro-Horsham, including Nicole Munger and Cait Mautz, who led the way with 12 points apiece. Peyton Traina added 10.

Boys’ hoops lose in OT to North Penn

Central Bucks West boys’ basketball came up a bit short to North Penn Tuesday in overtime, 62-57. The Knights mounted a furious rally in the fourth quarter to send the game into OT. North Penn outscored the Bucks in the final quarter, 17-4. Cal Reichwein and Sherrod Higginbotham each had 12 points to lead the Bucks. Pat Kelley also reached double-figures with 10.

Carroll clutch at line, girls win

Sophomore Mackenzie Carroll was brilliant from the free throw line, especially in the fourth quarter, when she knocked down all 13 of her free throws, and Central Bucks West girls’ basketball won at CB South, 71-58, Friday night. Carroll finished with 24 points and seven rebounds. She was 15-for-18 from the charity stripe. Teammate Kat Bahner contributed 12 points and eight rebounds. The Bucks improved to 15-5 overall and 11-1 in the Suburban One League Continental Conference.

Reichwein leads Bucks over Rams

Cal Reichwein scored 18 points as Central Bucks West boys’ basketball defeated Pennridge, 55-42, Tuesday. The Bucks led at the half, 29-17. Kyle Salvitti and Pat Kelley joined Reichwein in double figures with 12 and 10 points, respectively. Jeff Garner paced the Rams with 13 points; Drew Dietterich added 10.

The Bucks led at the half, 33-20. Nicole Munger and Mackenzie Carroll each had 11 points for CB West, which shot 15-for-20 from the free throw line.

Central Bucks West boys’ basketball couldn’t quite dig out of the 21-10 hole it found itself in after one quarter. The Bucks lost to Souderton, 53-47, Friday. Jared Kelly led all scorers with 17 points; he was 6-for-7 from the line. As a team, CB West was 9-for-14 from the charity stripe and knocked down six three-pointers.

Central Bucks West girls’ basketball came back from a 33-22 halftime deficit to nip Central Bucks East, 53-52, Tuesday. The Bucks improved to 13-4 overall and 9-0 in the Suburban One League Continental Conference. Corrinne Godshall led the way for CB West with 11 points; she also hit a three late to help give the Bucks the victory. Mackenzie Carroll added 10 in the winning effort, while teammate Maggie Gratz had 8.

Cal Reichwein also filled it up for the Bucks, connecting for 11 points and three three-pointers. CB West shot 23-for-32 from the free throw line.

Kat Bahner had a double-double (12 points, 12 rebounds) for the Bucks, who blitzed the Panthers, 27-7, in the third quarter to pull away. Mackenzie Carroll and Corrinne Godshall added 11 and 9 points, respectively, in the winning effort. Kathryne Vetter scored 16 points to lead Quakertown.

The Bucks sent North Penn to its first loss of the season, 58-47. Sophomore Nicole Munger fueled CB West with 18 points, 5 assists, 4 rebounds and 3 steals. Central Bucks West boys’ basketball used a 42-21 second half to rout Pennridge, 66-42, Friday. Jared Kelly knocked down five three-pointers for his team-leading 17 points to pace the Bucks. Cal Reichwein was a sliver behind, with 16 points, on four three-pointers. CB West shot 8-for-11 from the free throw line. Alex Krivda and Jeff Garner managed 10 points apiece to lead the Rams. Pennridge shot 5-for-8 from the charity stripe.

Sophomore Nicole Munger returned from a broken wrist and the Central Bucks West girls’ basketball team dominated Pennridge, 65-38, Friday. Munger netted 14 points and had four steals and four assists. Senior Maggie Gratz came through with a double-double, 14 points and 13 rebounds. The Bucks, who shot 18-for-25 from the line, led 25-3 after one quarter.

Peyton Traina was clutch for the Bucks, scoring a team-leading 11 and knocking down all six of her foul shots. Mackenzie Carroll was also sharp, dropping in 9, including all four of her free throws. Calypso Carty had 8 for the victors.

Central Bucks East boys’ basketball held on to defeat Central Bucks West, 38-31, Tuesday night despite the Bucks outscoring the visiting Patriots 12-1 in the third quarter. CB East had built a 24-9 halftime lead. Brendan McLaughlin, Bennett Kardane and Danny Reilly each had 7 points to lead the Patriots, who shot 13-for-17 from the line. Kyle Salvitti led the Bucks with 7 points; Cal Reichwein and Jared Kelly each contributed 6.

A trio of sophomores led Central Bucks West girls’ basketball over Quakertown, 82-41, Friday night. The Bucks jumped out to an 18-5 advantage after one quarter. Nicole Munger dropped in 16 points to lead CB West. She also had five assists. Classmates Peyton Traina and Corrinne Godshall also had fine games. The former scored 11 points and had six rebounds and five assists. The latter contributed 6 points and 10 rebounds.

Cheltenham catches boys’ basketball

Central Bucks West boys’ basketball let a three-point lead heading into the fourth quarter Tuesday slip away to Cheltenham. The Bucks fell, 44-40. CB West is now 1-2 on the season. Cal Reichwein led the Bucks with 14 points, thanks to four three-pointers. Kyle Schechter had 9.

Carroll named tournament MVP

Central Bucks West girls’ hoops sophomore Mackenzie Carroll was proclaimed MVP of the CB West Tip Off Tournament with a 25-point effort Saturday in the championship game, a 51-43 triumph over Abington. Carroll was 12-for-15 from the free throw line. As a team, the Bucks were 20-for-26 from the charity stripe. Nicole Munger added 10 points for the victors. CB West outscored Abington, 36-23, in the second half.

The Bucks outscored Norristown, 24-12, in the second and third quarters. Corrinne Godshall netted 10 points in the winning effort. CB West went 8-for-11 from the free throw line.

Herd helps Rams down Bucks

Kelly Wolff fed Melissa Herd for the game-winner Tuesday as Pennridge field hockey stunned CB West, 3-2. Kari Moyer (Herd assist) and Addy Marshall (Kyra Preston) scored in the first half for the Rams. Heather Zezzo (Virginia Moore) deposited one for the Bucks. In the second half, Zezzo found Moore for the equalizer before Herd’s heroics. Sarah Seiler had 11 saves for Pennridge; Courtney Kauffman stopped 8 shots for the Bucks.

Central Bucks West girls’ volleyball sent back Quakertown, 3-0 (25-4, 25-12, 25-19), Thursday. The Bucks remained unbeaten in the Suburban One League Continental Conference and overall. Alicia West had 10 kills and 4 digs for the victors. Rachel Baker had 7 kills. Courtney King and Maddie Klun each added 5 kills and 4 aces, while libero Rachel Farnin contributed 5 digs and Jessica West had 20 assists.
