Patriots rally in second half, down Titans

Trailing at the half, 4-2, Central Bucks East boys’ lacrosse stepped up in the second half to post a 10-6 victory at Central Bucks South Tuesday. The Patriots held a 37-24 advantage in shots on goal. CB East’s Matt Heim led all scorers with four goals. Teammates Anthony Casselli and Zach Kane each dropped in two goals, while Matt Schmidt had three assists. Cole Rushworth won 13 of 20 faceoffs, and goalie Sean McGovern had 13 saves. For the Titans, Tyler McGee led the way with two goals and an assist. Connor Bechtel stepped up with nine ground balls, and Navy-bound senior Ryan Kelly registered 12 saves.

Patriots hold on to nip Titans

Chase Vonder Schmalz’s heave at the buzzer landed an inch or two short as Central Bucks East boys’ basketball survived a comeback attempt from Central Bucks South, 59-58, Friday. The setback denied the Titans a share of the Suburban One League Continental Conference championship. Vonder Schmalz finished with 18 points for CB East. Joining him in double-digits for the Titans were Kevin Raymond and Matt Scamuffo, who each added 10. CB East junior Brendan McLaughlin led all scorers with 19. Teammate Matt Stauffer had 13 and Ben Kardane added 11. CB East’s Danny Reilly and Stauffer ripped down eight and seven rebounds, respectively. McLaughlin also contributed five assists.

Titans run away from Panthers

Adam Tamny scored a game-high 16 points as Central Bucks South boys’ basketball rolled past Quakertown, 56-39, Wednesday. The Titans outscored the Panthers in the first and fourth quarters combined 32-16. Kevin Doyle contributed 9 points for CB South, while Kevin Raymond and Matt Scamuffo each added 8. John Smith netted 10 points to pace Quakertown; Jake Perrine added 8.

Bucks score late win over Titans

Central Bucks West boys’ basketball rallied to nip Central Bucks South, 51-47, Tuesday. The Bucks withstood Matt Scamuffo’s 23 points for the Titans thanks to Jared Kelly’s 15 points and Pat Kelley’s 12. Cal Reichwein added 7 points for CB West, which improved to 5-6 overall.

Veal goes over 100 as Titans roll

Steve Veal caught six balls for 112 yards and two scores as Central Bucks South football dominated Quakertown, 48-6, Friday night. QB John Pileggi was an efficient 13-for-17 for 205 yards and four scores. Sophomore tailback Josh Adams got back on track with 149 yards on nine carries and two TDs. Paul Weeks had two interceptions; the Titans had four as a team. Defensive lineman Tyler Paradysz notched two sacks.

Titans take down Patriots

Central Bucks South football downed visiting Central Bucks East, 34-13, Friday. Titans quarterback John Pileggi threw three touchdowns in the first half – two to Cale Mosher – and sophomore tailback Josh Adams had 132 yards on the ground on 26 attempts and two total touchdowns. Steve Veal had 114 yards receiving on seven catches. Vince Thompson Jr. had 92 yards on 19 carries and a TD for the Patriots; Zach Nelsen threw a touchdown pass to Brandon Ilkiw late in the fourth quarter.

Rams slow down mighty Titans

Pennridge football held down an explosive Central Bucks South offense and junior tailback Mike Class had 223 yards on the ground and two total touchdowns as the Rams defeated the Titans, 21-10, Friday night. The Pennridge defense held standout tailback Josh Adams to 121 yards on 25 carries and kept the sophomore sensation out of the end zone. CB South’s lone touchdown came in the second quarter, an 8-yard connection between QB John Pileggi and receiver Paul Weeks. Rams signal-caller Alex Krivda threw a first-quarter TD pass to Class from 30 yards out.

Pileggi passes Titans over Knights

The Central Bucks South football team staged a furious comeback Friday night at North Penn, coming back from a 23-7 third-quarter deficit to upend the Knights, 36-29. Titans QB Jon Pileggi found Cale Mosher from 17 yards out with 1:03 remaining in the fourth quarter for the game-winner. Pileggi threw four touchdown passes on the night. Two went to Mosher, the other two were corralled by Paul Weeks. For the game, he was 18-for-27 for 237 yards and no interceptions. Tailback Josh Adams was held in check, but he did manage a 96-yard kickoff return touchdown in the first quarter. Jon Mullin had 13 total tackles for CB South.

Titans shut out Panthers

Margo Fox scored in the first half and Lauren Wills, Kelsey Mariner and Taylor Matsinger in the second as Central Bucks South girls’ soccer rolled over Quakertown, 4-0, Thursday. The Titans outshot the Panthers, 11-7. Erinne Finlayson had 4 saves for Quakertown.

Pileggi passes Titans over Souderton

Central Bucks South quarterback Jon Pileggi was 12-for-13 for 219 yards and two touchdowns as the Titans football team got by visiting Souderton, 44-28, Friday night. Pileggi threw TD passes to Cale Mosher and Steve Veal. Sophomore tailback Josh Adams continued his dominant stretch with 30 carries for 197 yards and four scores. Pat Litzenberger had 1.5 sacks to lead the CB South defense, which amassed four sacks and two picks.

Quakertown Invitational results

Quakertown High held its annual invitational girls’ volleyball tournament on Saturday. The host Panthers finished 3-5 in Pool A, which was won by Pennridge (5-3). The Rams lost in the quarterfinal round to CB South, which carried a 5-3 record in Pool B. The Titans lost in the semifinals to eventual runner-up William Tennent. CB East went 7-1 in Pool C. The Patriots lost to eventual champion Brandywine in the semifinals.

Football again rolls behind Adams

Josh Adams had 328 yards on the ground on 29 carries and four touchdowns as Central Bucks South football blew out visiting Hatboro-Horsham, 49-21, Friday. Jon Pileggi was a very efficient 12-for-15 for 138 yards and two scores. The first went 16 yards to Matt Radwanski; the second nine yards to Paul Weeks. Steve Veal had nine total tackles for the Titans.

Dunn, Dunleavy lead Titans golf

Joe Dunleavy and Zach Dunn each fired a round of 36 as Central Bucks South golf won at home over North Penn, 191-205, Friday. The Titans improved to 9-4 in conference play with one match remaining, on Thursday, Sept. 27 against Souderton. Kyle Putnam had a 37 for CB South.

Golf knocks off Quakertown

Kyle Heesen fired a 38 and Joe Dunleavy carded a 39 as Central Bucks South golf won at Quakertown, 198-206, Thursday. Adam Glendenning and Luke Wendling each scored a round of 40 for the Titans. Carson Sinnott and Joe Rochelle led the Panthers with rounds of 39.

Golf drives past CB West

Central Bucks South golf had four players shoot below 40 as the Titans dropped rival Central Bucks West, 194-205, Wednesday. Kyle Putnam, Zach Dunn and Joe Dunleavy each carded a 38 and Kyle Heesen chipped in a 39. Tyler Sokolis and Sean Ebert led the way for the Bucks with rounds of 40.

Titans football destroys Norristown

Central Bucks South football rolled over its third straight opponent Friday. This time, the Titans ripped Norristown, 42-0. Tailback Josh Adams continued his improbable season with 138 yards on just 6 carries and 3 touchdowns. Jon Pileggi threw a TD pass to Cale Mosher for 64 yards. The CB South defense came up huge, as well. Bobby Mallon had 10 tackles to lead the charge.

Adams rushes Titans past Indians

Josh Adams lugged the pigskin 17 times for 249 yards and six touchdowns as Central Bucks South football ran by Council Rock North, 58-21, Friday night. QB Jon Pileggi was 12-for-14 for 180 yards and a TD. Steve Veal caught Pileggi’s lone TD pass. Jon Mullin, Troy Reynolds and Veal snagged interceptions for the Titans.

Girls’ soccer fit to be tied

Central Bucks South and Pennridge girls’ soccer tied, 2-2, Thursday evening. Sophomore Marissa Sheva scored first for the Rams in the 9 th minute. Titans senior Taylor Matsinger knotted the game at 1-1 at halftime with a beautiful floater from about 30 yards out in the 31 st minute. In the second half, Pennridge senior Megan Shenk, on a cross from Natalia Pinkney, scored what appeared to be the game-winner in the 76 th minute, but CB South senior Kendall Brodie headed in the equalizer a bit more than a minute later, on a pretty corner kick from Matsinger, to force overtime. Neither team was able to generate much offense in the two, 10-minute extra sessions, so both squads were awarded a tie.

Girls’ volleyball dashes Rams comeback

Central Bucks South girls’ volleyball defeated Pennridge, 3-1 (25-17, 25-15, 17-25, 26-24), Tuesday. “The team played well on its first night out,” head coach Ulana Keer said. “We are trying some different lineups and my goal is to get all the kids in and give them exposure to high level volleyball.” Ally Horvath (5 aces), Madi Conroy (3 aces), Jax Babezki (4 aces), Abby Mummert (2 aces) and Jess Berton (4 aces) excelled behind the service line for the Titans. In the kills department, Mummert had 15 kills; Babezki, 10; Jackie Haffey, 5; and Lauren Wise, 2. “We have a lot of work to do to get to the next level, and we are keeping ourselves on our toes and wanting to improve every time we get in the gym,” Keer said.

Titans football rips CR South

After spotting host Council Rock South an early, 7-0 lead, Central Bucks South football answered with 42-straight points to win going away, 42-7, Friday night. Josh Adams was splendid replacing Dan Brown at tailback, gaining 209 yards on 22 carries and scoring four touchdowns. Tommy Dibrino also proved able on the ground, with 11 carries for 84 yards and one score. Paul Weeks snagged a Jon Pileggi pass for 34 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter. Pileggi was 13-for-15 for 139 yards and no interceptions. Tyler Paradysz led the Titans defense with eight tackles.
