Preschoolers show their love
It didn’t matter what the calendar said: Tuesday was a day of love in Doylestown.
Originally scheduled for Valentine’s Day but nixed when a barrage of snow barreled down on Bucks County last week, a food drive to benefit the New Britain Food Larder took place at Small Wonders Preschool at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Doylestown Borough on Feb. 18.
Dubbed Lend a Hand, Bring a Can, the community project involved preschoolers in both the morning and afternoon classes. Students brought canned goods and other nonperishable items to school, dropping their donations off in a bin before enjoying their belated Valentine’s Day school parties. The afternoon class collected 317 food items, surpassing last year’s entire haul. Students in the morning class were scheduled to bring in their donations on Wednesday.
Lend a Hand, Bring a Can is one of many character-building activities Small Wonders students have been participating in during the month of February. Another project, the Acts of Kindness Chain, encouraged parents to write down thoughtful acts their children performed at home. The strips of paper were returned to school and assembled into a giant chain.
